EXPORT

USA
HSI recommends having horses examined for various animal diseases prior to their being exported. The horses will be tested for the same diseases upon arrival in the United States. Horses may enter the USA in three cities: New York, Miami and Los Angeles.

We recommend having horses tested for the following diseases:
- Equine Piroplasmosis (C-ELISA test)
- Dourine
- Glanders
- Equine Infections Anaemia (Coggins test)
- Contagious Equine Metritis (CEM) (only in the case of horses over the age of 731 days)

Upon arrival in the United States, all horses must serve three days at a USDA quarantine facility (USDA = Unites States Department of Agriculture). After completing the three-day quarantine period, they are released. Horses under the age of two as well as geldings can be picked up for further transport at this point. However, male and female horses over the age of two will then proceed to the next stage of the quarantine procedure. Female horses will be quarantined for 14 days and male horses for 30 days to rule out CEM (Contagious Equine Metritis), a contagious venereal disease. The exact place where the horses will be held in quarantine depends on their final destination. Once the full quarantine procedure has been completed, horses can be transported to their new owner.

The USA is HSI's main transport destination.

MEXICO
After the USA, Mexico is HSI's second most important shipping destination. Both import and export of horses are increasingly popular in Mexico. HSI predominantly transports baroque horses like Friesians, Andalusians and Lusitanos to Mexico.

The following blood tests are mandatory in Mexico:
- EVA test
- Coggins test
- Equine Piroplasmosis test
- CEM test

All Mexico-bound horses must serve five days in pre-export quarantine prior to being transported.

CHINA
HSI is increasingly focusing on a new destination: China, a land of infinite possibilities. HSI expects the number of transports to China to increase significantly over the next few years. The company has been shipping horses to and from China for years, and has an excellent track record in successful transports. China-bound horses must serve 30 days in pre-export quarantine and are held in post-arrival quarantine for 45 days.
